Thanks to you the Creating Opportunity! campaign for Blackburn College was a success. We raised $26,343,835 to focus on the future of the students who make Blackburn their home. Fundraising for this 5-year campaign began on July 1, 2012 and it was the most ambition campaign in all of Blackburn’s History. The successful completion of this journey means that Blackburn can meet many of the comprehensive needs of the college. It is more than just raising money to support Blackburn. It is about investing in current and future students. Campaign funds were raised through cash donations, appreciated securities, IRA rollovers, and gifts of real estate.
Gifts to the Creating Opportunity! campaign were secured through donations, pledges, and estate plans from more than 2,700 donors. Blackburn alumni pledged significant gifts through estate plans alone, totalling $7,655,250, and the additional funds allowed Blackburn to establish 16 new endowed scholarships. In addition, campaign donations have allowed the renovations of the Lumpkin Learning Commons, Jaenke Alumni Center, and a new fitness facility on campus.
The Creating Opportunity! campaign also provided funds to invest in the Work Program, in academic and faculty support, and technology and facility improvements. Beyond the obvious monetary benefits, Blackburn College President John Comerford commented on additional ways this support affected Blackburn. “The campaign created energy. Renovations began and momentum built with every additional dollar raised. There was almost a rebirth on campus; what was becoming old was new again and that fueled the increased energy and excitement. The campaign gave us the flexibility to consider more projects and to contemplate additional changes. It’s truly an exciting time.”
