September 14, 2015, Carlinville, IL — Blackburn College announced a more than $1 million gift from Dr. Lois DeFleur ‘58 of Centennial, CO, as part of an upcoming comprehensive capital campaign. The gift includes a $150,000 gift in support of Blackburn’s Lumpkin Learning Commons and a $1 million commitment from her estate.
“Lois DeFleur is an outstanding trustee and supporter of the College,” noted Blackburn President John Comerford. “Lois recognizes the importance of her Blackburn experience and is committed to supporting the same opportunities for future Blackburn students. Her estate gift will contribute greatly to student educational opportunities for years to come.”
Dr. DeFleur received her BA in Sociology from Blackburn College in 1958, where she was a member of the Work Committee (managing the nationally renowned Blackburn College Work Program) and the Women’s Basketball team. While at Blackburn, she was a member of the Blackburn Players theatre group, appearing in a number of productions, and also served as a Resident Counselor in residence halls. She went on to earn her MA from Indiana University and a PhD from the University of Illinois.
