December 13, 2017, Carlinville, IL— Blackburn College, one of eight work colleges in the United States, has a distinct approach to its work program that sets it apart from the others: Blackburn’s program is student managed.
What makes that such a differentiating factor among work colleges is the leadership experience it provides students while they are still working towards their degree. While the work program is responsible for helping students achieve an affordable education, it is also instrumental in teaching a system of ethics and accountability that only experience in real world work scenarios can impart.
Blackburn’s unique approach and the value it holds for its students is best exemplified when coming from the workers themselves. When asked about the new series of videos showcasing the student managed work program Blackburn’s Director of Public Relations, Peter Oswald commented, “We needed to show the embodiment of the management skills and experience that students at Blackburn have gained from the program and the best way to do that is to feature the students themselves.”
