SUMMARY:Humanities Salon: The Spooky & Proud Salon
DESCRIPTION:Join us in our 4th annual celebration of the spooky and the LGBTQ+! October is the month for Halloween and LGBTQ+ history\, so come share your favorite creations on those themes. Costumes encouraged! \nHistorically\, a Salon was a gathering of people who came together to exchange and discuss intellectual and artistic ideas of the day. Fancy attire was worn and tea and cakes were served. To honor this tradition and establish a creative community at Blackburn for writers\, artists\, performers\, and lovers of all art\, the English & Communications hosts our own Humanities Salon\, which is open to all students\, faculty\, and staff who want to: \n● read their own creative work;\n● perform a short musical\, theatrical\, dance\, or any stage act;\n● share and discuss an original work of art;\n● share any work of art of any medium that you simply love;\n● listen and be part of the creative community at Blackburn. \nWe hope to see you there!

DESCRIPTION:The Blackburn Music Showcase\, Friday\, October 3 at 7:00 pm in Bothwell Auditorium\, will set the stage for the Music Program’s full 2024-2025 season. This performance displays a wide variety of choral\, solo\, and ensemble pieces that give the audience a sample of what music students and the Music Department will be working on for the next year. This season\, audience members can expect a preview of the folk music theme of this year’s staged production\, a glimpse of the beauty of Blackburn’s traditional lessons and carols service\, Christmas at Blackburn\, along with pieces that foreshadow our spring studio recital\, and a look at the culmination of the choir’s work for the season in the choir concert. \nThis event is free and open to the public.

DESCRIPTION:This semester’s staged production is occurring in collaboration with the City of Carlinville on Saturday\, October 18th at 11:00 am. \nDue to inclement weather\, the event will move from Tom Thumb Park to Bothwell Auditorium on the Blackburn College campus. \nThis performance will feature students performing both traditional and modern folk music along with accompanying guests from the community. The event will feature folk art\, poetry and food as well as music. \nThis event is free and open to the public.
