Development and Planned Giving Officer
Office of Institutional AdvancementBlackburn College, a unique four-year liberal arts college with a student-managed work program located in Carlinville, IL, seeks applications for Development & Planned Giving Officer. The Development and Planned Giving Officer has the responsibility for solicitation and stewardship of donors, managing a portfolio of up to 150 individuals and prospects. This position will also include completing necessary prospect research and developing strategies for cultivation and solicitation of planned giving prospects and major donors, while maintaining up to date records in Blackburn’s RE NXT. Working as a part of a team, this individual will serve as a staff liaison with alumni donor groups, especially in projects related to capital campaigns.
A bachelor’s degree is required, and a master’s degree or relevant advanced certifications are preferred. At least one year of experience in not-for-profit fundraising, including direct donor solicitation, or equivalent experience in areas such as sales and higher education admissions work, is required; 3-4 years of experience would be preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google docs and sheets, and database programs is also necessary. Desired capabilities include excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as being team-oriented, possessing strong time management skills, and having the ability to work independently and be self-directed. The ability and willingness to travel domestically at least 50% of the time to visit prospects and donors and to mentor/supervise student worker(s) as assigned are also required.
