Professor of Biology/Zoology/Animal Physiology 

Department of Biology

Blackburn College, a unique four-year liberal arts college with a student-managed work program located in Carlinville, IL, seeks applications for a full-time, teaching-focused, tenure track position in Biology.

Qualifications for the position include:

  • A Ph.D. related to a topic in Biology, Zoology, or Animal Physiology, or a date of Ph.D. defense completion by May 2025.
  • A strong commitment to teaching and advising undergraduates
  • Candidates will need to be able to teach courses including Zoology or Evolution, Comparative Anatomy, Animal Physiology and additional courses such as Development, Biocommunication, and/or other coursework based upon the expertise of the applicant.
  • Willingness and ability to mentor students in multiple contexts as part of the college’s unique student-managed work program.
  • The position is scheduled to start in January of 2025.

The Biology Department offers small class sizes in the upper-division classes and many opportunities to mentor, advise, and work closely with students as a supervisor in our student managed work program. The Department has modern facilities in a LEED certified building along with green-houses and a vivarium. There are generously sized, dedicated lab spaces to support teaching and undergraduate student research for each faculty member of the department. The college has access to local field sites for research and teaching lab field trips. Blackburn is both a Bee Campus and a Tree Campus as a result of efforts originating in the Biology Department. 

The salary range for this position will be $54,000-$60,000. The final salary offered will depend on the individual’s years of related work experience and whether the education qualifications are met.
