Blackburn’s Academic Support Services are largely based in the Lumpkin Student Success Center (LSSC). Staffed primarily by student Academic Resource Assistants (ARAs), the LSSC provides a variety of support resources to help students of all majors and class standings be successful at Blackburn. The Student Success Center provides library services, disability services, holistic success coaching, success workshops, and mental health counseling, as well as direct academic support with the Writer’s Block and subject tutoring.

Sunday: Noon — 6:00 pm
Some portions of Lumpkin may be closed for short durations to allow for extensive cleaning.

Library Resources

Students have access to approximately 55,000 physical volumes and multiple electronic databases such as EBSCO and JSTOR. The librarian and ARAs are available to help you find and utilize the right resources for all of your research needs. We also have laptops, cameras, and other tech items available for checkout. Our newly-renovated Reading Room provides a beautiful and productive space to study, find resources, and even get a snack!

Holistic Success Coaching

College presents many new challenges for students to navigate. It’s very common for students to need a little help navigating those challenges! Holistic Success Coaching can help you build essential skills to be successful in every aspect of your college experience, from academics to work to relationships with your peers. You can meet one-on-one with a professional or peer coach.

Success Workshops

Throughout the semester, the Lumpkin Student Success Center will hold workshops on a variety of success topics, including: time management, study skills, managing test anxiety, finding library resources, making a budget, and more!

Mental Health Counseling

College can be a stressful time for many students. If you find yourself struggling with depression, anxiety, or just needing a little help to better manage your stress levels, you are not alone! The Lumpkin Student Success Center offers mental health counseling to any student who needs some extra support with building their mental wellness and healthy coping strategies.

Writer’s Block

The Writer’s Block is open to any student who needs help writing a paper. Trained writing assistants hold open hours in the Block to organize and sharpen written work.

Subject Tutoring & Study Sessions

The LSSC partners with Academics to provide subject-specific tutoring and study support. Peer tutors hold tutoring and study sessions around campus to help students study and build skills for specific courses. Students who attend these sessions get more practice with difficult course content and learn essential strategies for academic success (which they can apply in all of their classes). Tutors don’t give answers – they give students the tools to meet their own learning goals in some of the most challenging courses at Blackburn. Scheduling an appointment is recommended, but walk-ins are also welcome.


For Fall 2021, the LSSC will be using a program called WCOnline for most appointment-based services (Holistic Success Coaching, The Writer’s Block, and subject tutoring). Click the “WCOnline” link for more information about setting up your account and scheduling appointments with each of these resources. Mental Health Counseling and Disability Services will not use WCOnline – to schedule appointments with those resources, use the contact information provided on that specific resource’s webpage.

EAST (Early Alert Support Team)

Please submit this form when you have a student of concern. A member of the EAST team will follow up with the student and send an email when the referral is completed.
