Blackburn’s NEW Bachelor of Arts in Arts Administration is a degree program designed for students who are passionate about the arts and want to make art, music, or theatre an important part of their community. Graduates will be prepared to be leaders in arts organizations, working at the business end of the Arts to make the creativity and collaboration of art possible and to bring art, music, and theatre to the public. The course of study is truly interdisciplinary, and focuses on topics important to both the creation and the business of the arts and the administration of arts organizations. The major draws on coursework from the departments of Art; Business Administration; Economics; English; Communications; Leadership, Law, and Public Service; and Music and Theatre.

Arts Administration is a field that opens up a wide variety of job possibilities. The Association of Arts Administration Educators (AAAE) lists the types of organizations where arts administrators work as the following: museums, artist residencies, orchestras, theater companies, opera companies, galleries, foundations, dance companies, cultural ministries, grantmakers, festivals, arts councils, presenters, arts education centers. To that one could also add community art, music, and theatre organizations. Potential jobs/careers include marketing, management, programming, operations, cultural policy, patron services, community arts, education/outreach, fundraising, research/analysis, consulting, production, finance, and advocacy.
