Job Description

Performs a wide range of skilled administrative duties for faculty in the Psychology Department. Executes, with proficiency, a broad range of technical systems in supporting teaching and research. Prepares materials for publications and/or grants.

  • Provides wide ranges of clerical support including: typing, composing, and editing letters, reports, lecture/course materials, and presentations. Prepares copy for publication or submission of grant proposals and/or reports.
  • Provides tutoring services to students in Introductory Psychology and other courses, including attending classes, holding review sessions, and providing active support for enrolled students.
  • Uses multiple technical applications including word processing, database management, spreadsheets, graphics and presentation software, electronic calendar, email, and other technical/scientific applications.
  • Serves as principal contact and source of information for students, staff, and other faculty when Psychology faculty are not available.
  • Coordinates events, including conferences, seminars, and colloquia.
  • Performs library/research work and summarizes findings.
  • Proctors exams as needed.
  • Participates in research meetings and laboratory work to include literature searches, study design, and data collection, entry, cleaning, and analysis. Knowledge of and comfort with Excel and SPSS will distinguish a candidate for the position.
  • Assists in grading of objective measures of student achievement.
  • Contributes to departmental efforts by performing related duties as required.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to the following. 

  • Psychology major or minor – Junior standing or above preferred
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Should have knowledge and interest in psychology
  • Should possess general clerical skills (typing)
  • Should be able to perform database searches, journal article reviews, and critical analysis of research findings
  • MUST be reliable and responsible
