Facilitate writing studios as part of the fist year writing courses. Assist students from across campus with their written work.
Job Description
Writing Assistants have two primary functions:
- Facilitate writing studios (WR 101/102) as part of first year writing (WR 111/112)
- hold open hours in the evening in the Writer’s Block
As facilitators of writing studios, writing assistants help first year students:
- understand assignments expectations
- brainstorm and draft papers
- guide students in meaningful conversation about each other’s work
Writing Assistants will also work shifts in the Writer’s Block in the evening where they will help students from across campus with their written work by:
- providing feedback
- helping students brainstorm and revise
- conversing with students to help them understand how their written work may be improved
Qualifications
- Earned a B- or higher in WR 111 and WR 112 (or equivalent)
- Sophomore standing
- Excellent work record to demonstrate reliability/dependability
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively critique written work and foster discussion
