What will be in my room when I get there?

Each student gets a twin sized bed, dresser, desk, bookshelf and wardrobe or closet. Each room is also equipped with wireless and wired internet access, and one coax cable TV connection.

    Can I bring a microwave?

No. We also do not allow toasters, toaster ovens or “Pizza Pizzaz” cookers. George Foreman style grills are acceptable, but not single surface open skillets. Coffee pots are also ok.

Is there A/C in the Residence Halls?

Four of our residence halls are equipped with A/C in each room and parlor: Jewell, Graham, Challacombe (North) and Jones. Stoddard and Butler do not have AC in the rooms, but their parlors are equipped.

    What things should I bring?

We have a checklist of suggested items to bring to campus on day one here.

Is there a place to cook on campus?

In addition to the Dining Hall and Snack Bar, each floor is provided one or two communal microwaves for use by residents. Stoddard and Jewell both have a kitchen complete with refrigerator, sink and oven to cook meals. We also have a list of recipes for microwaves here.

How do I get something in my room fixed?

The best way is to inform your Residence life staff in your Hall. They will be happy to file the work order with Physical Plant to get what you need done.

    Where can I eat?

There are two main venues to eat on campus. The Dining Hall in Schmidt Commons commonly referred to as “Ding” is the most common place to eat. Located in DCC, it offers cafeteria style all you can eat meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you are looking for something closer to fast food on campus, then the Snack Bar in the DCC lobby is for you. The Snack Bar offers made to order cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches, wraps, and other fast food choices. The Snack Bar is open later than Ding, especially on the weekend with hours until nearly midnight.

    Where can I get Groceries?

There are several places to get groceries in Carlinville. Carl’s IGA located in the middle of town is a good local business option. Walmart is also here and located on the southern edge on Carlinville next to Loveless Park, and the railroad tracks. Finally, Dollar General is available as well.

What is there to do in town?

Carlinville is bustling with activity year round. It puts on many city events and festivals including the annual Halloween parade and then a Christmas market in December. It has a thriving Downtown with shops and restaurants, and the Marvel Theater which plays new release movies at a very competitive price. Carlinville is also centrally located in Illinois being only an hour away from Springfield to the north and St. Louis to the south.
