Event to Highlight Blackburn’s Academic Music Program; Kicks off Performance Calendar for Year

The Department of Music and Theatre at Blackburn College will present a Music Showcase “We’re Not in Kansas Anymore” during homecoming weekend, Friday, September 23, 2022, in Bothwell Auditorium at 7:00 pm.

Dr. Joseph Welch, Professor of Music at Blackburn is the event’s director/conductor. He explained, “This musical event kicks off the Music Department’s performance calendar for the year. The theme ties right into Blackburn’s “There’s No Place Like Blackburn Homecoming theme for 2022. This showcase will be a celebration of the new direction Blackburn’s Music program is taking and will feature songs we are including in the upcoming College Choir performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City.”

The event will feature performances by the college choir, student soloists, faculty, and staff members with accompaniment by Dr. See Tsai Chan, Professor of Music. Those who attend will also enjoy an additional performance by Blackburn’s new Instructor of Voice, Cady Thomas Potts.

“We invite everyone to come by to support the work our students and faculty have done to create this amazing musical event, as well as to learn more about the music program at Blackburn,” Welch added.

The event is free, and donations will be accepted. Hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6:00 pm. For more event details, contact music@blackburn.edu or 217.854.5704. Individuals may also follow The Department of Music and Theatre on Facebook and Instagram @blackburnmuth.
