Blackburn College is taking an exciting leap forward in its commitment to athletics with the launch of its Women’s Flag Football program.
Leading the charge is head coach Stephanie Aragon, a passionate advocate for women in sports with direct playing experience in both flag and tackle football. Her firsthand understanding of the game adds authenticity, energy, and credibility to a program designed to inspire and empower female student-athletes.
“Our goal is to build a championship culture from day one,” Coach Aragon said. “That means focusing on effort, accountability, intention, and respect in everything we do, on the field, in the classroom, and through Blackburn’s Work Program. We’re setting the tone for what Blackburn Women’s Flag Football will represent for years to come.”
That vision is being realized inside one of the most impressive facilities in the region: the new 40,000-square-foot Blackburn Athletic Center. The building features a fully turfed indoor field, modern locker rooms, an athletic training room, and state-of-the-art training areas.
The launch of Women’s Flag Football also ties seamlessly into the College’s unique Work Program, the only one of its kind in the nation, where every student works on campus in meaningful roles that support the College community.
“The Work Program teaches responsibility, time management, communication, and teamwork — the same qualities that define great athletes,” Coach Aragon noted. “Our players aren’t just student-athletes; they’re also student-workers gaining real-world experience that prepares them for life after college. That’s something really special about Blackburn.”
As one of the few colleges in the region to add Women’s Flag Football, Blackburn is positioning itself as a leader in the sport. The combination of vision, facilities, and leadership sets the stage for long-term success.
“We’re not just building a team; we’re building a legacy,” Coach Aragon said. “Our goal is to compete at the highest level, represent our College with pride, and create a program that will make Blackburn a destination for women who want to play this incredible game.”
