Energy, teamwork, and pride are the heartbeat of Blackburn College Cheerleading. As the program takes its next steps forward, it’s doing so with a clear vision: to build a strong culture that represents the best of Blackburn, both on the sidelines and beyond the mat.

Leading the effort is Coach Molly Suttles, who brings a strong background in competitive cheer and performance leadership. Her experience and enthusiasm are driving the early stages of the program as she works to recruit students and establish a strong foundation for a vibrant, competitive team.

“We’re starting something from the ground up, and that’s what makes this so exciting,” Coach Suttles said. “Our goal is to build a program that unites the campus, supports our athletic teams, and gives students a chance to develop confidence, leadership, and lifelong friendships. Cheer is about more than routines — it’s about pride and purpose.”

As with all Blackburn students, cheerleaders will also take part in the College’s Work Program — the only one of its kind in the nation — which allows every student to hold a campus job that develops practical skills and leadership experience.

“The Work Program fits perfectly with what we want to teach through cheer,” Coach Suttles explained. “It’s all about responsibility, teamwork, and contributing to the larger community. Our student-athletes will gain experience as part of our team and in their work roles that will prepare them for a strong future.”

Looking ahead, Blackburn plans to build interest and participation through student engagement and recruitment efforts, developing a competitive, spirited cheer program that will represent the College with enthusiasm at athletic events and campus gatherings.

“We’re excited to welcome students who want to be part of something new and help shape the future of cheer at Blackburn,” Coach Suttles said. “This program will bring energy, connection, and school pride — it’s going to be something everyone can rally around.”
