Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL, will hold its annual Veterans Day Convocation on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 11 am in Clegg Chapel located in Hudson Hall on the College campus. The American Legion Post 554 and the College will honor United States military veterans at the event. It is open to Blackburn faculty, staff, students, and all members of the community. A thank-you lunch will be provided free of charge for veterans inside the Demuzio Campus Center following the Convocation.
The program will include the Presentation of the Colors provided by the American Legion Post 554 Color Guard and the Carlinville VFW, special readings, recognitions, and music by the Blackburn College Choir. Carlinville resident Bill Craig will be the event’s guest speaker. Craig served in the Army and is related to General George Patton. The former Professor at Lincoln Land College also taught night classes for veterans for 14 years.
President Gregory J. Meyer stated that the annual Veterans Day Convocation is an opportunity for the College to honor the nation’s veterans of all wars. “We are grateful to come together as a community and recognize the significant dedication made by veterans. Within our college community, which encompasses students, faculty, staff, alumni, Trustees, and friends in the Carlinville, we honor their legacy of service and acknowledge their unwavering commitment.” Meyer further added that the College is honored to demonstrate its support through this special event, providing an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices and invaluable contributions made by these individuals.
Blackburn College’s Veterans Day Convocation is coordinated by the Office of the Provost and will feature vocal and instrumental performances by the College Choir, Dr. Joseph Welch, and Dr. See Tsai Chan. For more information, contact Missie Snider, Executive Assistant to the Provost.
