GENERAL SUMMARY
The Assistant Director of Housing and Student Activities (Live-On) is a live-on, student-facing professional staff member responsible for supporting residential community development, student engagement, and evening and weekend operations. This role provides a consistent Student Life presence within the residence halls and plays a key role in implementing housing and engagement initiatives that promote student belonging, safety, and success.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Housing & Residence Life Leadership
- Provide leadership and support for residential communities, with a strong evening and weekend presence. ● Supervise and mentor Resident Assistants and assigned residential student staff.
- Assist with residential conduct processes, documentation, and educational interventions. ● Support residence hall openings, closings, and break operations.
- Serve in the Student Life professional staff pro-on-call rotation, providing after-hours response to student concerns, emergencies, and critical incidents.
Student Support, Care & Wellness
- Serve as a visible, relationship-centered support for students in residence.
- Respond to student concerns related to wellness, conflict, and safety, making appropriate referrals. ● Support CARE/BIT processes through residential engagement and documentation.
- Utilize de-escalation and crisis response strategies as appropriate.
Resident Director, Jewell Hall
- Serve as the Resident Director for Jewell Hall, providing direct leadership, oversight, and support for the residential community.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Resident Assistants assigned to Jewell Hall.
- Support and respond to student conduct concerns within Jewell Hall, including documentation, follow-up, and educational interventions.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for residents regarding housing-related concerns, community standards, and support needs.
- Coordinate with Campus Safety, Physical Plant, and Student Life colleagues to address facilities, safety, and community issues within the hall.
- Participate in Jewell Hall residence hall openings, closings, and break operations.
- Contribute to residential programming within Jewell Hall that aligns with broader Student Life, engagement, and DEIB goals.
Conduct & Compliance Support
- Serve as a trained investigator or hearing board member for student conduct and Title IX processes, as assigned.
- Collect and submit incident reports and assist with follow-up as needed.
- Partner with Campus Safety and other campus stakeholders during evening and weekend operations.
- Participate in Student Life meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
Student Activities & Engagement (Implementation Focus)
- Co-advise the Campus Activities Board (CAB), with emphasis on event execution, logistics, and student leadership development.
- Assist with the management and coordination of the student club and organization registration process, including supporting student leaders and advisors with requirements and timelines.
- Serve as a member of the DEIB Core Team, supporting programming, engagement efforts, and implementation of DEIB initiatives.
- Serve as a key contributor to Week of Welcome and the First-Year Experience (FYE), with particular emphasis on evening, weekend, and residential programming.
- Support student clubs and organizations with event planning, risk management, and evening and weekend programs.
- Assist with the implementation of large-scale campus programs, traditions, and community-building initiatives.
The salary range for this position will be $50,000 per year.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Professional experience in Residence Life, Student Affairs, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to work consistent evening and weekend hours.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
- Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Commitment to inclusive and student-centered practices.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequent evening and weekend work.
- Ability to respond to emergencies and navigate residential facilities.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and climb stairs.
