REPORTS TO: Blackburn and Beyond Program Director 

GENERAL SUMMARY 

The Student Success Coordinator (SSC) is a pivotal member of the Blackburn and Beyond (B&B) team who provides student support and guidance across all facets of the program. Critical to the success of this program, the SSC is responsible for collaborating with partners throughout campus to develop transition experiences to support student success.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 
  • Support and supervise students, individually or in small groups, to advance their learning goals within the B&B program.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with students by providing supportive, structured guidance while promoting independence and healthy relationship development.
  • Support student independence by using developmentally appropriate strategies that encourage problem-solving, self-advocacy, and responsible decision-making rather than task completion by staff.
  • Document student progress, observations, and concerns in accordance with program expectations and communicate proactively with the Program Director and campus partners.
  • Recognize signs of student distress and follow established protocols to ensure student safety and appropriate support.
  • Arrange specific student supports in class and in social settings.
  • Assist the Program Director to maintain the integrity of the B&B Program.
  • Help to facilitate the assessment process for the program using student learning objectives to make evidence-based recommendations to improve student learning in the B&B program.
  • Collaborate and communicate across campus with faculty and staff to implement individual student growth plans and work experiences.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of student development to develop, plan, and implement multi-faceted social activities that balance high expectations with students’ social efficacy needs.
  • Demonstrate awareness and deep understanding of the student development and transition needs of students within
    today’s context, while sensitive to the needs of a diverse student community and a pulse on the changing demographic trends within higher education.
  • Attend classes as needed to support student access to instruction while reinforcing faculty expectations and promoting independent learning.
  • Provide training and support to mentors and volunteers working with B&B students.
  • Other duties as assigned in support of the Blackburn and Beyond Program and Student Success initiatives.

The salary range for this position will be $44,000 per year.  

REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • LBS-1 Professional Educator License OR QIDP (Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional) certification (Preferred, not required)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to recognize social cues
  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate social behavior in the workplace
  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and maintain appropriate boundaries in complex student support situations
  • General ability to work effectively in a collaborative, busy, multi-tasking office environment.
