Department of English & Communications

Blackburn College, a unique four-year liberal arts college with a student-managed work program located in Carlinville, IL, seeks applications for a tenure-track Professor of English in the department of English & Communication. The successful candidate will primarily teach first-year writing and oversee the campus writing center. Our first-year writing model includes a peer writing studio facilitated by a writing tutor, so candidates must be enthusiastic about training and working with peer tutors. Candidates who can also teach the department’s core courses in the Gender and Sexuality Studies minor are especially encouraged to apply.

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in English or Composition and Rhetoric, demonstrated excellence in teaching first-year writing, and commitment to working with undergraduate populations with diverse levels of preparation and engagement. All applicants will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates who can start in January 2025.

The salary range for this position will be $54,000-$60,000. The final salary offered will depend on the individual’s years of related work experience and whether the education qualifications are met.
