Week of Welcome logo

As you approach your entry into Beaver Nation, we are excited to tell you how you will get your college journey off to an outstanding start — Blackburn’s Week of Welcome!

As new students to the College, your Blackburn journey begins with your first class during the Week of Welcome (WOW). Whether you will be living on campus or commuting, WOW is your opportunity to connect with your peers and establish Blackburn as YOURS.

In this class, Work College 101, you will receive training for your job in the Work Program and attend a series of faculty-facilitated workshops intended to prepare you for the classroom and college community.

Faculty-Facilitated Workshops

  • Academics at Blackburn
  • Value of the Work Program
  • Campus Resources
  • Communicating with Professionals/Peers
  • Studying and Time Management
  • Inclusivity and Belonging at Blackburn

You will have plenty of time to make new friends and meet with your fellow Beavers, attend practice if you’re a fall athlete, and settle into your new home away from home. The week will offer nightly social events and exclusive learning experiences, including:

  • Art Open House (music, theatre, art and creative writing)
  • Science Open House (vivarium tour and lab experiments)
  • Stress Management Activities (mindfulness meditation and build-a-beaver)
  • Clubs and Organizations Fair
  • Open Gym and Blitz Ball/Gaming in Buzz’s Hideout
